Block Party Organic (F1) Butternut Squash Seeds
(100% Refund)
(3-6 Business Days)
Cucurbita moschata - Our highest-yielding butternut.
We lovingly referred to Block Party as ‘Miracle’ and ‘Saint Butternut’ in our breeding nursery because it was just too good to be true. Both its yield and storage results were unbelievably high without compromising on flavor. We named it ‘Block Party’ for its compact blocky shape—a great efficiency when packing CSA boxes. Its thick neck means less waste when preparing or processing and it has a good flesh to seed cavity ratio. A great advancement in our butternut assortment. Avg. 3 1/2–4 1/2 lb. USDA Certified Organic.

Planting Guide
Cucurbita Moschata Instructions
Hardiness Zones
Zones 3–12 (Warm-Season Annual). Highly sensitive to frost. Wait for soil to warm and all danger of frost to pass before planting outdoors.
Sowing Method
Direct Seed: Sow 2 seeds 1/2-1" deep; thin to 1 plant per spacing interval.
Transplant: Sow 2-3 seeds per 2" container 3 weeks prior to planting. Thin with scissors. Minimal root disturbance is crucial. Harden plants 4–7 days prior to transplanting.
Temperatures
Optimum Germination: 77–95°F (25–35°C), peaking ideally around 86°F (30°C). Requires warm soil for rapid, even emergence.
Plant Spacing
Requires 6' between rows. In-row spacing depends on desired fruit size/vine length: space 18-24" for short vines or smaller fruit, up to 36" for larger development.
Culture
Thrives in fertile, well-drained soil (pH 6.0–6.8). Plastic mulch and row covers aid establishment, but covers must be removed at flowering to ensure adequate pollination.
Pests & Diseases
C. moschata types naturally resist vine borers better than other squash. Ensure good airflow to manage Powdery Mildew. Remove plant refuse in fall and spring plow to bury pupae.
Harvest, Curing & Storage
Harvest & Curing: Fruits are ready about 50-55 days after fruit set. Harvest before hard frosts. Sun cure outdoors for 5-7 days, or cure indoors at 80-85°F (27-29°C) with good ventilation.
Storage Warning: Store cured squash at 50-55°F (10-13°C) with 50-75% humidity. Repeated exposure to temperatures below 50°F (10°C) may cause chilling damage.
