Sowing Method

Preparation: Soak seed in warm water for 24hrs (scarification optional).

Spring Transplants: Start seeds indoors 3–4 weeks before your last spring frost date. Keep soil very warm.

Fall Direct Seeding: (Note: Only for regions with sufficiently long warm growing season). Plant seeds 10 to 12 weeks before the first expected fall frost. Mix ½ cup of an all-purpose organic fertilizer into the soil per 10 feet of row prior to planting. Cover seeds with ¾ to 1 inch of fine soil. Keep the soil surface consistently moist until the seedlings emerge. When seedlings are about 2 to 3 inches tall, space plants 15 to 18 inches apart in 36-inch wide rows.

Harvest 12-18 days after flowering. Harvest the fruits while they are still firm and bright green. Do not wait for them to turn yellow or orange, as the flesh becomes overly pithy and unpalatable for cooking. Store harvested melons in the refrigerator for up to a week.
