Datura stramonium - Dramatic Moonflower seeds for a spectacular twilight garden.
Often called Jimsonweed, Moonflower, or Devil's Snare, this fast-growing, bushy annual is famous for its huge, upward-facing, trumpet-shaped blooms that unfurl in the evening, releasing an intense, sweet fragrance to attract night-pollinating moths. The striking white or pale lavender flowers contrast beautifully against dark, jagged foliage. Datura is incredibly heat and drought tolerant. Warning: All parts of the Datura plant are highly toxic if ingested by humans or pets.

Hardiness Zones, Soil & Light
Grows beautifully across the US in USDA Zones 3–11. Plant in full sun. Datura is incredibly adaptable and thrives in poor, sandy, or rocky soils where other plants perish. While it tolerates drought well, occasional deep watering will encourage larger blooms.
Sowing Method
Seed Prep: Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours prior to planting to soften the hard seed coat.
Transplant: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost. Sow 1/8" deep in moist seed-starting mix.
Direct Seed: Sow outdoors after all danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed significantly.
Temperatures & Germination
Datura requires warm soil for germination. Maintain soil temperatures of 70-85°F (21-29°C) using a heat mat if starting indoors. Germination is often slow and erratic, taking anywhere from 14 to 45 days. Be patient and keep the soil lightly moist.
Plant Spacing & Care
Space transplants 24-36" apart. They will quickly grow into large, bushy plants. They require virtually no maintenance. Avoid heavy fertilizing, as this will lead to massive foliage growth with very few flowers.

The plant produces spiky, walnut-sized seed pods. Deadhead the spent blooms immediately if you wish to prevent the plant from self-seeding aggressively. If left alone, they will readily naturalize in your garden for the following year.
