Hardiness Zones, Soil & Light
Grows beautifully across the US in USDA Zones 3–11 (Note: Often acts as a die-back perennial or requires winter container growing in Zones 3-6). Plant in full sun for maximum blooming. Crape myrtles thrive in well-draining, loamy soil with a pH of 5.0-6.5. They are incredibly resilient but detest standing water.
Sowing Method
Cold Stratification Recommended: Mix seeds with moist sand in a sealed bag and refrigerate for 30-60 days to break natural dormancy.
Indoors: After stratifying, sow seeds barely covered (1/8" deep) in sterile potting mix 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy.

Maintain warm soil temperatures of 70-75°F (21-24°C) using a heat mat. Germination can be slow and sporadic, taking 15 to 30 days after the chilling period. Be patient and maintain consistent moisture until seedlings emerge.
